Test 65A - Faulty Temperature Gauge/Lamp

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For wiring diagrams, see appropriate article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE:
  1. Ensure engine cooling system is operating properly. Repair as necessary. If engine cooling system is okay, go to next step.
  2. Using scan tool, select engine controller. If scan tool does not display ENGINE CONTROLLER ACTIVE ON THE BUS, go to TEST 114A  . If scan tool displays ENGINE CONTROLLER ACTIVE ON THE BUS, go to next step.
  3. Using scan tool, read Powertrain Control Module (PCM) faults. If scan tool displays ECT SENSOR VOLTAGE TOO HIGH, see appropriate article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE:

    TESTS W/CODES - 3.3L

    TESTS W/CODES - 3.5L

    If scan tool does not display ECT SENSOR VOLTAGE TOO HIGH, go to next step.

  4. If scan tool displays ECT SENSOR VOLTAGE TOO LOW, see appropriate article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE:

    If scan tool does not display ECT SENSOR VOLTAGE TOO LOW, replace PCM. PCM is located under air cleaner.
