Pin Voltage Tests

NOTE: When performing pin voltage tests, unless stated otherwise in testing procedures, perform all pin voltage tests using a Digital Volt-Ohmmeter (DVOM) with a minimum 10-megohm input impedance. Voltage readings may vary slightly due to battery condition or charging rate.
CAUTION: When battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. See the COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in the GENERAL INFORMATION section before disconnecting battery.
CAUTION: When performing pin voltage tests, ensure proper terminals are used. Failure to use proper terminals may result in damage to wiring, ECM or sensor.
  1. Engine Control Module (ECM) is located below instrument panel, just in front of center console. See Fig 1 . Ensure ignition is off. Remove ECM for access to connectors on ECM (if necessary). Note ECM connector terminal identification. See Fig 2 .
  2. Connect paper clip or fine probe on leads of DVOM. Using DVOM, backprobe specified terminals to check voltage between ground and specified terminals in proper check condition. See Figure -7.
  3. If voltage is not within specification, check corresponding sensor, actuator and related wiring. After performing repair or replacement, recheck to ensure problem is corrected.
