Intake Air Temperature Sensor

  1. Intake air temperature sensor is incorporated into the volume airflow sensor. Ensure ignition is off.
  2. Disconnect connector for volume airflow sensor. Volume airflow sensor is located on passenger's side of engine compartment, near air cleaner.
  3. Using ohmmeter, check resistance between terminals No. 5 and 6 on connector at volume airflow sensor. See Fig 1 .
  4. Resistance should be within specification in relation to the temperature. See INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR RESISTANCE table.
  5. Using hair drier, apply heat to intake air temperature sensor while monitoring resistance between terminals No. 5 and 6 on connector at volume airflow sensor. See Fig 2 .
  6. Resistance should decrease as the temperature at intake air temperature sensor increases. If resistance is not within specification or resistance does not decrease with increased temperature, replace volume airflow sensor.
