Removal & Installation: CLOCKSPRING: Installation

  1. Place front wheels in straight-ahead position. Turn steering wheel 180 degrees clockwise. Turn ignition cylinder to LOCK position. Ensure clockspring is centered. See CENTERING CLOCKSPRING under ADJUSTMENTS. Install clockspring on shaft in steering column. Push clockspring downward until it is fully seated on steering column.
  2. Loosely install both retaining screws in clockspring. Tighten retaining screw near ignition switch light to specification first, and then tighten remaining retaining screw. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS. To install remaining components, reverse removal procedure.
  3. Use steering wheel retaining nut to install steering wheel. DO NOT hammer on steering column shaft when installing steering wheel. Use care when installing air bag module. Avoid pinching wires for air bag module. Tighten steering wheel retaining nut and air bag module-to-steering wheel bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS.
  4. Activate air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Check operation of horn and cruise control switches.
