Removal And Installation: Removal

NOTE:

When replacing a deformed or broken intermediate shaft, it is also recommended to check the condition of the wheel hub bearing and suspension wishbone.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
  2. Remove the steering column opening cover. Refer to COVER, STEERING COLUMN OPENING, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

  3. Remove the bolt (1a) attaching the intermediate shaft (1b) to the steering box pinion.

  4. Remove the mounting bolts (1a) and place the electric power steering unit (1b) and respective support bracket aside.

  5. Remove the bolt (1a) securing the intermediate shaft (1b) to the electric power steering intermediate shaft.

  6. Remove the intermediate shaft.
