Tune-Up Notes: Notes
- POOR FUEL ECONOMY OR ROUGH IDLE CORRECTION: May be caused by improper carburetor fuel bowl vent valve adjustment (changing position of throttle stop adjusting screw may change adjustment of vent valve). To correct, be sure position of vent valve rod in reference to rod index is correct (see illustration). Adjust by bending tab on vent valve rod lever where it contacts acceleration lever (see illustration).
- 200" ENGINE STUMBLE OR DRIVEABILITY PROBLEM CORRECTION (Thermactor Cars): Be sure carburetor float level is 1 3 32". On Synchro-mesh cars if float level is correct and problem still exists, reset timing to 3° BTDC. On Auto, Trans. cars if problem still exists, remove ail shims from distributor vacuum advance unit.
- SURGE OR ROUGH IDLE CORRECTION (Non-Thermactor Cars Only): If normal tune-up procedures do not correct problem, check distributor curve with stroboscope; vacuum leaks around carburetor base, jointed surfaces, and vacuum line fittings; be sure thermostat is functioning properly; check compression pressure; check engine mounts and exhaust system alignment. If problem still exists, see Ford 2 & 4 Barrel in Carburetor section for carburetor modifications.
- 1966 170" & 200" 6 CYL. ENGINES (WITH THERMACTOR) STUMBLE CORRECTION: If normal procedures for correcting stumble are not effective, proceed as follows: On 170" engine (S.M. or Auto. Trans.) reset initial timing to 3° BTDC. On 200" engine (Synchro-mesh) make same correction as for 170" engine. On 200" (Auto. Trans.) adjust fuel level to 1 3/32". If stumble is not corrected, remove shims from distributor vacuum advance assembly.
- 1966 MUSTANG SIX ROUGH IDLE CORRECTION: This may be caused by wrong mounting bolt holes used in locating engine rear insulator assembly. In all instances, the two center holes must be used to mount the insulator. Outboard holes are for 8 cyl. models only.
- 1966 FLICKERING OR INOPERATIVE HEADLAMP CORRECTION: This condition may be caused by the headlamp dimmer switch installed upside down. Make sure multiple connector is located on top side, and secured to switch.
