Steering Columns: Removal
- Disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the upper-to-lower steering shaft bolt. Disengage the pot-joint from the column shaft by collapsing the intermediate shaft assembly.
- Remove the steering wheel. Proceed to STEERING WHEEL & COLUMN SWITCHES article in the STEERING section. Remove the steering column trim shrouds. On tilt columns, remove the upper extension shroud by squeezing it at the 6 & 12 o'clock positions.
- Remove the steering column cover on the instrument panel. Disconnect all electrical connections to the steering column switches. Loosen the bolts retaining the steering column the brake pedal bracket.
- Remove the 3 screws retaining the steering column toeplate to the dash. Remove the steering column-to-brake pedal bolts. Lower the steering column and pull it out from the vehicle.
