Turbocharger - Gasoline: Description
The 2.3L EFI turbocharger assembly is located on the right-hand side of the engine. See Fig 1 . Turbocharger operation is dependent upon engine RPM. It produces maximum boost during high-speed or heavy load conditions. During low or moderate speed and load conditions, the system is similar to a normally aspirated engine, thereby retaining reasonable fuel economy. The Mustang SVO with 2.3L engine uses the same turbocharging system with an added air cooler which permits higher manifold pressures. See Fig 2 .
The 5 major components of the Ford turbocharger are the compressor, turbine, wastegate, wastegate actuator, and a water cooled center housing. See Figure .
