2.3L HSC/CFI
Use this test procedure ONLY when directed to do so by results of QUICK TEST or steps in CIRCUIT TESTS . Follow test procedure carefully.
- When engine runs rough, misfires, stalls, lacks power, or idles roughly, perform the following checks:
- Perform SYSTEM CHECK, MAP Check. Use TEST QQ - SYSTEM CHECK , step 2).
- Check MAP sensor, using TEST H - MAP/BP SENSOR , step 12).
- Check EGR valve for correct function.
- Check for, and repair, any bad ground or power connections.
- Check ignition components (cap, rotor, wires, coil, and plugs).
- Check basic engine components (valves, cam timing, compression, etc.).
- If engine idle speed is low with A/C on, go to TEST O - NEUTRAL A/C SWITCH , step 9).
- If engine stumbles after hot restart, check HEGO. Use TEST W , step 18).
- If shift indicator light is always on or off, go to TEST FF - SHIFT INDICATOR LIGHT , step 1).
- If engine stalls while parking vehicle, go to TEST R - PSPS , step 3).
- If engine idle speed is high in Drive (Auto. Trans. only), place transmission in "D" with engine off. Test Neutral/Drive Switch (NDS) circuit (test pin No. 30 on breakout box) for short to ground. Circuit should NOT have continuity to ground in Drive. If necessary, repair wiring.
- If fuel pump always runs, go to TEST Y - INERTIA SWITCH , step 12).
- If A/C does not cut off under wide open throttle (WOT) conditions or if A/C is inoperative, go to TEST GG - A/C CUT-OUT (WAC) , step 1).
