Output State Test

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 7 other vehicles, including the 1984 Ford RV Cutaway, 1984 Ford Pickup, 1984 Ford Econoline, 1984 Ford Cutaway, and 1984 Ford Club Wagon. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. These checks are specified in the testing charts. Output State Test is used to diagnose each actuator. Test is performed in the Key On-Engine Off Self-Test mode after service codes have been sent. DO NOT  disable self-test, but momentarily depress throttle and release. All auxiliary EEC outputs will be activated at this time. Another throttle depression will turn them off.
  2. Connect DVOM to self-test output pin 4. Start the KEY ON-ENGINE OFF (KOEO) SELF-TEST  . When Continuous codes are completed, DVOM will read 0 volts. Depress accelerator to turn on actuators.
  3. Disconnect DVOM from pin 4 and connect to appropriate actuator. Measure voltage at actuator. Readings above 10.5 volts indicate actuators are on, readings below 2 volts indicate actuators are off. Each test will tell what action to take according to voltage shown on DVOM.
