SERVICE INFORMATION
This bulletin supersedes Service Bulletin 88-1-7 dated January 8, 1988. This article is being republished in its entirety to correct the wire color code called out in Step 1-d of TSB Article 88-1-17. This Service Bulletin contains the electronic fuel control system "Quick Test" procedure. If service is required, use the following procedure when performing the "Quick Test" with a Super Star II Tester.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
- Attach adapter harness to Super Star II Tester (007-00028) and vehicle harness as follows.
- Connect "A" to "D", Figure 1.
- Attach a jumper wire from the STI single pin connector of the Super Star II Tester ("B") to battery ground, Figure 1NOTE: The jumper wire is not included. The jumper wire must be fabricated.
- Connect "C" to battery ground, see Fig 1 .
- Connect red single pin connector (spade) of adapter harness ("E") to the vehicle self-test single pin connector (blue/yellow wire), see Fig 1 .
- Leave "F" disconnected.
- Connect "G" to the vehicle self-test six (6) pin connector, Fig 1 .
- Switch Super Star 11 Tester to "MECS" and "SLOW CODE" positions.
- Position the "HOLD/TEST" button to the "HOLD" location.
- Position the power switch to the "PWR" location.
- Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.NOTE: Key On-Engine Off (KOEO) self-test is the only self-test that can be performed.
- Wait two (2) seconds, then depress the "HOLD/TEST" button to the "TEST" position.
- Record service codes and service as required.
NOTE:
The system does not have a pass code (e,g., code II for EEC systems). The Super Star II Tester will show no codes to indicate the system is OK.
