Computed Timing Check

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1989 Mercury Sable, 1989 Mercury Cougar, 1989 Lincoln Continental, 1989 Ford Thunderbird, and 1989 Ford Taurus. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Turn key off and wait 10 seconds. Start engine. Activate KOER SELF-TEST. After the last service code has been displayed, the timing will remain fixed for 2 minutes, unless KOER SELF-TEST is deactivated.
  2. Correct Self-Test timing equals base ignition timing (10 degrees BTDC on most engines, see emission decal) plus 17-23 degrees BTDC. If timing is not 27-33 degrees BTDC, go to CIRCUIT TEST D13 . If timing is 27-33 degrees BTDC, proceed with KOER SELF-TEST.
