Ignition Timing
NOTE:
Timing light should be connected to No. 1 spark plug using inductive pickup, adapter or snap-on connector. Do not puncture spark plug wire or boot to make connection.
- Set parking brake and block wheels. Disconnect automatic parking brake release (if equipped). Turn all accessories off. Connect timing light to engine. Disconnect single in-line SPOUT connector shorting bar. Wire color of SPOUT connector is Yellow/Light Green.
- SPOUT connector is located near TFI module. On 3.0L FWD and 3.8L RWD, TFI module is mounted on distributor. On 3.0L SHO, TFI DIS) module is mounted on camshaft timing belt cover. On 3.8L FWD, TFI module is mounted to firewall behind right front strut tower. On 3.8L supercharged, TFI (DIS) module in mounted on a pad at right front of engine.
- Start engine and warm to normal operating temperature. With engine at timing RPM, check timing. Turn off engine, disconnect timing light and reconnect single in-line SPOUT shorting bar.
