Low Oil Level Warning Light Testing
- With ignition on, engine off, the lamp should light. If not, check fuse in fuse panel and wiring. Start engine and light will go out if oil level is not low.
- If the oil level is 1.5 qts. (1.4L) or more low, the oil pan sensor will be grounded. This will cause the light to stay on until ignition key is turned off. If low oil level light does not come on, check the following: * Circuit fuse. * Low oil level relay. Located on right side of steering column reinforcement. * Indicator light.
- To test oil pan sensor, disconnect wire at sensor and verify proper oil level in engine.
- Connect a VOM to sensor terminal and ground. With oil at proper full level reading should be greater than 100,000 ohms (sensor open). Drain 2 qts. of oil from oil pan and recheck. Readings should be less than 1000 ohms. See appropriate chassis wiring diagram in the WIRING DIAGRAMS section.
NOTE:
It may take 5 minutes or more for oil to drain from sensor to get low oil level reading. Sensor must be horizontal when this test is performed.
