Temperature Gauge Testing

  1. Disconnect water temperature sensor connector. Water temperature sensor connector is located on top left rear side of engine.
  2. Using Gauge System Tester (Rotunda 021-00055), connect one lead of tester to Yellow/Green wire at connector and other lead to ground. Set gauge tester to resistance values.
  3. Turn ignition switch to the ON position. Check to see that gauge indicator needle displays correct resistance values. See the TEMPERATURE GAUGE RESISTANCE VALUES SPECIFICATIONS  table. Continue test for 2 minutes on each setting to correctly judge condition. Allowable reading is twice the width of gauge needle.

    1-4 89-120
    1-3 120-145
    1-2 145-177
    1 More Than 177
  4. If reading is within allowable range, proceed to the TEMPERATURE SENSOR CHECK  . If reading is not within allowable range, replace instrument cluster assembly.
