Combination Switch: Probe

  1. Unplug connectors from combination switch. Set hazard flasher switch to OFF position. Check for continuity between specified terminals with switch in each position. See Fig 1 . If continuity is not as specified, or is poor in any switch position, replace combination switch.
  2. To test turn signal switch, perform steps 3) through 5). To test headlight and dimmer switches, perform steps 6) through 11). To test hazard flasher switch, perform step 12). To test windshield wiper/washer switch, see appropriate WIPER/WASHER SYSTEMS article in the ACCESSORIES/SAFETY EQUIPMENT section.

  3. Set turn signal lever to neutral position. Continuity should exist between terminal "F" on 14-pin switch connector and terminals "G" and "H" on 6-pin switch connector.
  4. Set turn signal lever to left turn position. Continuity should exist between terminal "F" on 14-pin switch connector and terminal "G" on 6-pin switch connector. Continuity should not exist between terminal "F" on 14-pin connector and terminal "H" on 6-pin switch connector.
  5. Set turn signal lever to right turn position. Continuity should exist between terminal "F" on 14-pin switch connector and terminal "H" on 6-pin switch connector. Continuity should not exist between terminal "F" on 14-pin switch connector and terminal "G" on 6-pin switch connector.
  6. Pull and hold flash-to-pass switch toward steering wheel. With switch held in position, continuity should exist between terminals "A" and "D" on 6-pin switch connector. With switch released, continuity should not exist.
  7. Set dimmer switch to high beam position (away from steering wheel). Continuity should exist between terminals "A" and "F" on 6-pin switch connector. Continuity should not exist with switch in low beam position.
  8. Set dimmer switch to low beam position (toward steering wheel). Continuity should exist between terminals "B" and "F" on 6-pin switch connector. Continuity should not exist with switch in high beam position.
  9. Set headlight switch to OFF position. Continuity should not exist between terminals "C" and "E" or between terminals "D" and "E" on 14-pin switch connector.
  10. Set headlight switch to PARK position. Continuity should exist between terminals "C" and "E" on 14-pin switch connector. Continuity should not exist between terminals "D" and "E" on 14-pin switch connector.
  11. Set headlight switch to HEADLIGHT position. Continuity should exist between terminals "C" and "E" and between terminals "D" and "E" on 14-pin switch connector.
  12. Set hazard flasher switch to ON position. Continuity should exist between terminals "O" and "P" on 14-pin switch connector. Continuity should not exist with switch in OFF position.
