Pinpoint Test

  1. Check Fuse - Check the 30-amp door lock fuse located in the interior fuse panel. Is the fuse OK? If yes, go to step  5 . If no, go to next step.
  2. Check System - Replace the 30-amp door lock fuse. Inspect the fuse. Does the fuse fail again? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step  5 .
  3. Check For Power Short To Ground - Turn key OFF. Locate and disconnect the 16-pin interior fuse panel connector. See Fig 1 . Locate and disconnect the power door lock relay connector, left and right power door lock switch connectors, and left and right power key lock switch connectors. Measure the resistance of the White/Green wire between the 16-pin interior fuse panel connector and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes repair the White/Green wire.
  4. Check For Short To Ground - Turn key OFF. Disconnect the power door lock relay connector, left and right power door lock switch connectors, left and right power key lock switch connectors, and left and right power door lock motor connectors. Measure the resistance between ground and the power door lock relay connector wires, except for the White/Green wire and the Black wire. Are any of the resistances less than 5 ohms? If yes, repair the wire(s) in question. If no, go to next step.
  5. Check Power Supply To Power Door Lock Relay - Turn key OFF. Reconnect the 16-pin interior fuse panel connector. Disconnect the power door lock relay connector. Measure the voltage on the White/Green wire at the power door lock relay connector. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? If yes, go to next step. If no, repair the White/Green wire between the power door lock relay and interior fuse panel.
  6. Check Power Door Lock Relay Ground - Turn key OFF. Disconnect the power door lock relay connector. Measure the resistance of the Black wire between the power door lock relay connector and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes, go to next step. If no, repair the Black wire.
  7. Check Power Door Lock Relay Ground - Turn key OFF. Disconnect the right and left power door lock switch connectors and right and left power key lock switch connectors. Measure the voltage on the White/Green wire at each switch connector. Are the voltages greater than 10 volts? If yes, go to next step. If no, repair White/Green wire between the switch in question and the interior fuse panel.
  8. Check Power Door Lock Switches - Turn key OFF. Reconnect the power door lock relay. Remove the left and right power door lock switches and left and right power key lock switches. Leave electrical connectors connected. Check for voltage at each switch while moving the switch. See SWITCH VOLTAGE  table. Is the voltage for all switches within specifications? If yes, go to next step. If no, replace switch in question.
    SWITCH VOLTAGE

    Application Voltage At Green/Black Wire
Power Door Lock Or Key Lock
    Lock 10-13 Volts
    Unlock 2-3 Volts
  9. Check Continuity To Power Door Lock Relay - Turn key OFF. Disconnect the left and right power door lock switch connectors, left and right power key lock switch connectors, left and right power door lock motor connectors, and power door lock relay connector. Measure the resistance of the Green/Black wire between the power door lock relay connector and all lock switch connectors. Measure the resistance of the Green and Red wires between the power door lock relay connector and the power door lock motor connectors. Are the resistances less than 5 ohms? If yes, go to next step. If no, repair the wire(s) in question.
  10. Check Power Door Lock Relay - Turn key OFF. Access the power door lock relay. Leave the electrical connector connected. Check for voltage at power door lock relay connector while moving switch. Voltage at Green wire in lock position should be 12 volts, in unlock position 0 volt. Voltage at Red wire in lock position should be 0 volts, in unlock position 12 volts. Is the voltage for each switch position within specifications? If yes, replace the power door lock motor assembly that does not work. If no, replace the power door lock relay.
