Rack Yoke Preload
NOTE:
This is not a normal service adjustment. It is only required when pinion shaft and valve assembly is removed. Steering gear unit must be removed from vehicle. See STEERING GEAR
under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Clean exterior of rack housing. Mount steering gear in soft-jawed vise. Loosen yoke lock nut. Using Yoke Adjustment Adapter (T90P-3504-JH), loosen yoke adjusting bolt 10-40 degrees from starting position.
- Using an INCH-lb. torque wrench and Pinion Torque Adapter (T86P-3504-K), measure pinion shaft rotation torque. See PINION SHAFT ROTATION TORQUE . If rotation torque is not within specification, adjust yoke adjusting bolt as necessary.
