Code 31: Check Left Front Sensor

  1. Turn ignition off. Install breakout box. Measure resistance between pins No. 24 and 25. If resistance is 800-1400 ohms, go to step 7). If resistance is not 800-1400 ohms, go to next step.
  2. Disconnect left front sensor wiring harness connector. Measure resistance between sensor terminals. If resistance is not 800-1400 ohms, replace sensor. If resistance is 800-1400 ohms, go to next step.
  3. Check Circuit No. 521 Continuity

Turn ignition off. Measure resistance between pin No. 24 and wheel sensor wiring harness connector Tan/Orange wire terminal. If resistance is not about zero ohms, repair circuit No. 521 (Tan/Orange). If resistance is about zero ohms, go to next step.
  4. Check Circuit No. 522 Continuity

Turn ignition off. Measure resistance between pin No. 25 and wheel sensor wiring harness connector Tan/Black wire terminal. If resistance is not about zero ohms, repair circuit No. 522 (Tan/Black wire). If resistance is about zero ohms, circuit is okay and testing is complete.
  5. Check Circuit No. 521 Short To Ground

Turn ignition off. Leave left front sensor wiring harness connector disconnected. Measure resistance between pins No. 1 and 24 at breakout box. If continuity is present, repair circuit No. 521 (Tan/Orange) short to ground. If continuity is not present, go to next step.
  6. Check Circuit No. 522 Short To Ground

Turn ignition off. Leave right front sensor wiring harness connector disconnected. Measure resistance between pins No. 1 and 25 at breakout box. If resistance is less than 10 ohms, repair circuit No. 522 (Tan/Black) short to ground. If resistance is not less than 10 ohms, go to next step.
  7. Check Sensor Cable For Damage

Inspect sensor cable for damage. Repair or replace as necessary. If no damage is present, problem is intermittent. See INTERMITTENT DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE  .
