Temperature Gauge Test
CAUTION:
DO NOT connect battery voltage or a ground directly to temperature sender terminal during tests. Sender and gauge will be damaged.
- Ensure cooling system functions properly. Unplug temperature gauge sending unit connector. Connect 73-ohm resistor, or Instrument Gauge Tester (021-00055) set to 73 ohms, between sending unit harness connector and ground. Turn ignition on.
- If temperature gauge indicates COLD, replace 73-ohm resistor with 10-ohm resistor (or set tester to 10 ohms). Temperature gauge should now indicate HOT. If gauge indicates as described, replace temperature gauge sending unit. If gauge does not indicate as described, inspect wiring for open or short circuits. If wiring is okay, replace temperature gauge. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
