Loss Of Generic Electronic Module (Gem) Functions
- Inspect fuse 19 (10 Amp). Check for loose or damaged connectors or wires. If a problem is found, service as necessary. If okay, go to next step.
- Connect New Generator Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC), and retrieve continuous DTC's. Perform On Demand self test. If DTC B1317 is present, repair charging system for over-voltage condition. If DTC B1317 is not retrieved, go to next step.
- Inspect GEM connector J1 pin 13 (Black/Light Green wire) for terminal looseness or damage. See Figure . Repair as necessary. If okay, go to next step.
- Disconnect battery negative terminal. Check for continuity on Black/Light Green wire between fuse 19 and GEM 26-pin connector terminal 13. See Figure . If there is no continuity, repair open in Black/Light Green wire. If continuity is present, go to next step.
- Check GEM ground connection behind right side of instrument panel. If connection is okay, repair open in ground circuits (Black/White wire) between GEM and ground point behind right side of instrument panel. Grounds at GEM are located in 26-pin connector terminals 25 and 26, and 22-pin connector terminal 15. See Figure .
