Clearing Codes

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1996 Mazda B4000, 1996 Mazda B3000, and 1996 Mazda B2300. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

After repairs have been completed, connect NGS tool to data link connector 2. See Figure . Select clear codes function in GENERIC OBD-II FUNCTIONS and clear codes. Repeat QUICK TEST to ensure all OBD-II systems work properly and diagnostic trouble codes are no longer present. If diagnostic trouble code P1000 is present, go to DTC P1000 chart.

CAUTION: DO NOT  disconnect vehicle battery to clear codes. This will erase stored operating information from Keep-Alive Memory (KAM). To clear KAM, disconnect negative battery terminal for at least 5 minutes.
CAUTION: When battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in the GENERAL INFORMATION section before disconnecting battery.
