Test D: Left Rear Sensor & Circuit

  1. DTC 34 & 44: Check Left Rear Wheel Sensor Circuits

Disconnect 16-pin connector on jumper from HCU assembly to chassis harness connector. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS  . Measure resistance between HCU assembly 16-pin chassis harness connector terminals No. 1 (Gray/Black wire) and 6 (Orange wire). See Figure . If resistance is 2187-2673 ohms, go to step 3). If resistance is not 2187-2673 ohms, go to next step.
  2. Check Left Rear Wheel Sensor

Disconnect left rear wheel sensor harness connector. Measure resistance between wheel sensor connector terminals. If resistance is 2187-2673 ohms, repair circuit No. 496 (Orange wire) or No. 499 (Gray/Black wire) between wheel sensor and HCU 16-pin harness connector. If resistance is not 2187-2673 ohms, replace left rear wheel sensor.
  3. Check Wiring At Jumper Harness

Remove cover from HCU. Disconnect jumper harness from ABS control module. Check for broken or damaged wire in jumper harness. If wires are okay, go to next step. If wires are not okay, replace broken or damaged wire in jumper harness.
  4. Check Left Rear Wheel Sensor Circuit Short To Ground

Remove cover from HCU. Disconnect jumper harness from ABS control module. Using a DVOM, check resistance between ABS control module 14-pin connector terminal No. 5 (Orange wire) and ground. Also check resistance between terminal No. 13 (Gray/Black wire) and ground. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, Repair Gray/Black wire and Orange wire in jumper harness. If wires are okay replace left rear wheel sensor.
  5. Check Left Rear Wheel Speed Sensor Air Gap

Remove left rear wheel and check for damage to sensor or sensor indicator. Verify air gap between sensor and sensor indicator is within .024-.063" (.6-1.6 mm). If air gap is not as specified, check for excessive axle bearing end play and adjust sensor position as required. If air gap is okay and warning light remains ON constantly, replace ABS control module.
