Section 23 (Drive Shafts): Description

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 12 other vehicles, including the 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis, 1997 Mercury Cougar, 1997 Lincoln Town Car, 1997 Lincoln Mark VIII, and 1997 Ford Thunderbird. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Drive shafts are balanced, tubular shafts with single Cardan "U" joints attached at each end. The drive shaft consists of two single Cardan "U" joints, a drive shaft slip yoke, welded tube assembly and drive shaft centering socket yoke. The drive shaft centering socket yoke and flange are used to connect drive shaft cardan "U" joint to rear differential pinion flange. The splined drive shaft slip yoke permits the drive shaft to move forward and rearward on transmission output shaft.
