Both Side Mirrors Inoperative

  1. Power Supply & Ground Check

Remove power mirror control switch. Unplug harness connector. Connect voltmeter between Black wire and Orange/Yellow wire terminals at mirror control switch connector. If battery voltage is indicated, go to step 6). If battery voltage is not indicated, go to next step.
  2. Ground Continuity Check

Connect ohmmeter between Black wire terminal at mirror control switch harness connector and ground. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair Black wire. Reconnect harness connector and retest system.
  3. Power Supply Check

Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and Orange/Yellow wire at mirror control switch harness connector. If battery voltage exists, go to step 6). If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step.
  4. Short To Ground Check

Turn ignition off. Remove fuse No. 34 in interior fuse panel. Measure resistance between ground and Orange/Yellow wire at mirror control switch harness connector. If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, repair short to ground in Orange/Yellow wire and retest system.
  5. Power Supply Circuit Continuity Check

Check resistance of Orange/Yellow wire between mirror control switch and interior fuse panel cavity No. 34. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace fuse and go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open Orange/Yellow wire and retest system.
  6. Mirror Function Check

Unplug mirror control switch. Using jumper wires, check mirror operation by applying battery voltage and grounding appropriate mirror motor terminals. See MIRROR FUNCTION TEST TABLE. Mirror should move in one direction. To move mirror in opposite direction reverse polarity of jumper wires. If mirrors operate in all directions, replace mirror control switch and retest system. If mirrors do not move in all directions, go to next step.
    MIRROR FUNCTION TEST

    Mirror Function Wire Color
    Right Mirror (1)
    Up/Down Operation White/Black & Yellow/Green
    Left/Right Operation White/Purple & Yellow/Green
    Left Mirror
    Up/Down Operation White/Red & Yellow
    Left/Right Operation White/Blue & Yellow
    (1) On models without power windows, right mirror wire colors are the same as left mirror wire colors. Use left mirror test procedure.
  7. Mirror Circuit Continuity Check

Unplug mirror control switch. Unplug harness connector at suspect mirror. See SIDE MIRROR ASSEMBLY  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Using ohmmeter, check continuity of each wire between mirror and mirror control switch harness connectors. See WIRING DIAGRAM, for wire color identification. Check continuity between each wire at mirror harness connector and ground. If ohmmeter indicates any wire open or shorted to ground, repair open shorted wire(s). If all mirror circuits are okay, replace mirror motor.
