- Inspect fuses, connections, and wiring. If all are okay, go to next step. Repair any obvious defects.
- Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located under left side of instrument panel, next to steering column. Following NGS tester manufacturer's instructions, retrieve continuous DTCs. Perform ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST
. If no DTC exists, go to next step. If any DTCs exist, perform the following:
- If DTC B1431, B1446, B1476 and B1473 exist, repair short in Yellow/White wire between GEM and run relay. Run relay is located at left rear of engine compartment.
- If DTC B1441 and B1467 exist, repair short in Light Blue/Orange wire between wiper switch and GEM.
- If DTC B1448, B1473, B1446 and B1476 exist, repair open in Black wire between wiper motor and GEM. See WIRING DIAGRAM .
- If DTC B1467 or B1446 exists, check run relay. Replace relay if necessary and retest system. See RELAYS under COMPONENT TESTS.
- Turn wipers off. Using NGS tester, access WASH-WS PID from PID/DATA monitor menu. If NGS tester indicates switch is off, inspect for short to voltage in Dark Blue/Orange or White wire between HI-LO relay and wiper motor. If wires are okay, test wiper switch. See WIPER SWITCH under COMPONENT TESTS . Replace switch as necessary.
