Test E: Lumbar Support Function Does Not Work Properly

  1. Check Ground Circuit At Pump

    Disconnect lumbar pump connector. Using ohmmeter, measure resistance of Black wire between lumbar pump harness connector and ground. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair Black wire. Retest system.

  2. Check Voltage Supply To Lumbar Support Pump

    Using voltmeter, measure voltage of Red wire at lumbar pump harness connector while holding control switch in INFLATE position. If reading is less than 10.5 volts, go to next step. If reading 10.5 volts or greater, go to step 7).

  3. Check Red Wire At Switch

    Remove lumbar control switch, leaving wiring connected. Backprobe Red wire at lumbar control switch connector while holding control switch in INFLATE position. If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step. If battery voltage exists, repair Red wire between lumbar control switch and lumbar pump. Retest system.

  4. Check Red Wire For Short

    Disconnect lumbar control switch. Check continuity between Red wire of lumbar control switch harness connector and ground. If continuity does not exist, go to next step. If continuity exists, repair short in Red wire.

  5. Check Power Supply To Lumbar Control Switch

    Check Black/White wire of lumbar control switch harness connector for voltage. If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step. If battery voltage exists, replace lumbar control switch. Retest system.

  6. Check Continuity Of Circuit No. 517 (Black/White Wire)

    Remove power supply circuit breaker. Using ohmmeter, measure resistance of Black/White wire between fuse panel and lumbar control switch harness connector. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Black/White wire. Retest system.

  7. Check Lumbar Support Pump Airflow

    Connect lumbar pump connector. Disconnect hose from lumbar pump. While holding lumbar control switch in INFLATE position, feel for air emerging from lumbar pump. If air emerges, go to next step. If no air emerges, replace lumbar pump. Retest system.

  8. Check Control Switch Airflow

    Reconnect hose to lumbar pump. Disconnect hose from lumbar control switch. While holding lumbar control switch in INFLATE position, feel for air emerging from hose. If air emerges, go to next step. If no air emerges, repair or replace hose between lumbar pump and lumbar control switch. Retest system.

  9. Check System For Leaks

    Connect hose to lumbar control switch. Connect in-line pressure gauge to hose. Hold control switch in INFLATE position until pressure is 5 psi (0.35 kg/cm2 ). Wait 3 hours. Observe pressure. If pressure does not hold, go to next step. If pressure holds, system is okay.

  10. Check Lumbar Pad For Leaks

    Disconnect in-line pressure gauge. Disconnect hose from adjuster pad. Using hand pump, inflate pad to 5 psi (0.35 kg/cm2 ). Wait 3 hours. Observe pressure. If pressure does not hold, replace lumbar support pad. If pressure holds, replace lumbar control switch.
