Test E: Alarm System Will Not Disarm Using Door Lock Cylinders

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1997 Lincoln Mark VIII. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Using scan tester, perform On-Demand Self-Test on Steering Column/Ignition/Lighting (SCIL) module. If DTC B1562 exists, go to DTC TESTS in ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM - PASSIVE article. If DTC B1562 does not exist, go to next step.
  2. Using scan tester, check PID for DRLKCYL at SCIL module while using ignition key to rotate door lock cylinder on driver's door to unlock position. If PID for DRLKCYL does not indicate ON in the unlock position, go to next step. If PID for DRLKCYL indicates ON in the unlock position, go to step 9).
  3. Using scan tester, check PID for DRLKCYL at SCIL module while using ignition key to rotate door lock cylinder on passenger's door to unlock position. If PID for DRLKCYL does not indicate ON in the unlock position, go to next step. If PID for DRLKCYL indicates ON in the unlock position, go to step 7).
  4. Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect connector C286 from SCIL module. See Figure . SCIL module is located behind passenger's side of instrument panel, to the right of glove box. SCIL module contains one 16-pin connector, one 22-pin connector and two 26-pin connectors.
  5. Connect ohmmeter between ground and terminal No. 5 (Dark Green/Purple wire) on connector C286 for SCIL module. See Fig 1 .

  6. Using ignition key, rotate door lock cylinder on driver's door to unlock position and note resistance reading. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace SCIL module. Retest system operation. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open circuit on Dark Green/Purple wire between SCIL module and disarm switch on driver's door. Retest system operation.
  7. Disconnect Gray 4-pin connector C504 at disarm switch on door lock cylinder for driver's door. Using ohmmeter, check resistance between ground and Black/Light Blue wire in connector C504 for disarm switch. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open ground circuit on Black/Light Blue wire. Retest system operation.
  8. Connect jumper wire between Dark Green/Purple wire and Black/Light Blue wire in connector C504 for disarm switch. Using scan tester, check PID for DRLKCYL at SCIL module. If PID for DRLKCYL indicates ON, replace disarm switch for driver's door. Retest system operation. If PID for DRLKCYL does not indicate ON, repair open circuit on Dark Green/Purple wire between SCIL module and disarm switch on driver's door. Retest system operation.
  9. Using scan tester, check PID for DRLKCYL at SCIL module while using ignition key to rotate door lock cylinder on passenger's door to unlock position. If PID for DRLKCYL does not indicate ON in the unlock position, go to next step. If PID for DRLKCYL indicates ON in the unlock position, replace SCIL module. Retest system operation. SCIL module is located behind passenger's side of instrument panel, to the right of glove box. SCIL module contains one 16-pin connector, one 22-pin connector and two 26-pin connectors.
  10. Disconnect Gray 4-pin connector C604 at disarm switch on door lock cylinder for passenger's door. Using ohmmeter, check resistance between ground and Black/Light Blue wire in connector C604 for disarm switch. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open ground circuit on Black/Light Blue wire. Retest system operation.
  11. Connect jumper wire between Dark Green/Purple wire and Black/Light Blue wire in connector C604 for disarm switch. Using scan tester, check PID for DRLKCYL at SCIL module. If PID for DRLKCYL indicates ON, replace disarm switch for passenger's door. Retest system operation. If PID for DRLKCYL does not indicate ON, repair open circuit on Dark Green/Purple wire between SCIL module and disarm switch on passenger's door. Retest system operation.
