Low Oil Level Indicator Never/Always On

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1997 Ford Mustang. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. If LOW OIL warning is always on, go to next step. If LOW OIL warning is never on, go to step 4).
  2. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect cluster connectors C1 and C2. See Figure and Figure. Disconnect low oil level relay connector. Reconnect negative battery cable. Turn ignition on. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between ground and instrument cluster connector C2, terminal No. 11 (Gray wire). If resistance is less than 10 k/ohm, repair circuit No. 208 (Gray wire) for short to ground and retest system. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohm, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition off. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. With an ohmmeter, check resistance between ground and instrument cluster connector C2, terminals No. 10 (Red/Yellow wire) and No. 11 (Gray wire). If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, repair instrument cluster printed circuit for short to ground. If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, go to next step.
  4. Using jumper wire, connect wiring instrument cluster connector C2, terminal No. 11 (Gray wire) to ground. If indicator light illuminates, inspect and repair wiring as necessary and retest system. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If indicator does not light, go to next step.
  5. Check voltage at output side of fuse No. 15. See Figure. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If voltage is not present, replace fuse No. 15.
  6. Check voltage at input side of fuse No. 15. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If voltage is not present, repair open in wiring to fuse No. 15 and retest system. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  7. Turn ignition off. Remove instrument cluster if not previously done. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Check for continuity between instrument cluster printed circuit connections on printed circuit for connector C2, terminals No. 10 and 11. If continuity exists between cluster flex connections, inspect and repair wiring as necessary and retest system. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If continuity is not present, repair instrument cluster printed circuit or indicator light and retest system.
