Test J: Left Mirror Vertical Control Inoperative

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1997 Lincoln Mark VIII. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Turn ignition on. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). Set NGS tester to DDM PID MIRV_SW. Move mirror switch to L (left) position. Use mirror control switch to tilt mirror up, then down, while monitoring tester. If PID MIRV_SW reads UP and DOWN when mirror moves, go to step 7). If PID MIRV_SW does not read normally or mirror does not move, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect DDM connector C456. Check voltage at connector C456 Terminal No. 21 (Dark Blue/Orange wire) while using mirror control switch to tilt mirror up. If battery voltage exists, go to step 6). If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step.
  3. Check continuity from connector C456 Terminal No. 21 (Dark Blue/Orange wire) to ground. If resistance is 10,000 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 10,000 ohms, go to step 5).
  4. Disconnect mirror switch connector C500. Check continuity between DDM connector C456 terminal No. 21 (Dark Blue/Orange wire) and ground. If resistance is 10,000 ohms or less, repair Dark Blue/Orange wire short to ground and retest. If resistance is more than 10,000 ohms, replace switch and retest.
  5. Disconnect mirror switch connector C500. Check continuity between DDM connector C456 terminal No. 21 (Dark Blue/Orange wire) and switch connector C500 terminal No. 8 (Dark Blue/Orange wire). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace switch and retest. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair Dark Blue/Orange wire and retest.
  6. Check continuity between DDM connector terminal No. 10 (Yellow/Black wire) and ground while using mirror control switch to tilt mirror up. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace DDM and retest. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace switch and retest. 7). Perform DSM Self Test. If DTC U1180, U1181 or U1194 exist, see the SEATS - POWER article. If DTC U1180, U1181 or U1194 do not exist, replace DSM and retest.
