Wipers Do Not Park Properly

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1997 Mercury Cougar and 1997 Ford Thunderbird. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Turn wipers off. Turn ignition off. Disconnect wiper motor connector. See Figure . Measure resistance between Black/Pink wire and Dark Blue/Orange wire terminals of harness connector. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go step 4).
  2. Disconnect Integrated Control Module (ICM) 12-pin connector. ICM is located at primary junction block. Measure resistance between Black/Pink wire and Dark Blue/Orange wire terminals of ICM. If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair wire between ICM and wiper motor.
  3. With ICM 12-pin connector still disconnected, measure resistance between Orange wire and Brown/White wire terminals of ICM. If resistance is 45,000-50,000 ohms, replace ICM. If resistance is not as specified, test wiper switch. See WIPER SWITCH TEST  . If wiper switch is okay, inspect for open Orange wire or Brown/White wire between wiper switch and ICM.
  4. Turn ignition on. Disconnect wiper motor connector. Check for battery voltage at Dark Green wire terminal of harness connector. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair Dark Green wire.
  5. Check for battery voltage between Dark Green wire and Black wire terminals of wiper motor harness connector. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair Black wire.
  6. Disconnect wiper motor harness connector (if necessary). Measure resistance between Black/Pink wire terminal of wiper motor connector and wiper motor ground terminal. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace wiper motor.
  7. Inspect wiper motor arm, shaft, and associated linkage. If okay, go to next step. If mechanically defective, repair as necessary.
  8. Test wiper switch. See WIPER SWITCH TEST  . Replace wiper motor if faulty.
