Test E: Wipers Do Not Park Properly

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1997 Lincoln Continental. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect wiper motor connector. Inspect Black wire at harness connector for continuity to ground. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open Black wire to ground.
  2. Turn ignition on. Turn wiper switch off. Check for battery voltage between Dark Green and Black wires at wiper motor harness connector. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open Dark Green wire and/or Black wire.
  3. Turn wiper switch off. At wiper motor harness connector, measure resistance between Black/Pink and Dark Blue/Orange wires. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, go to step 6).
  4. Turn wiper switch off. At wiper motor harness connector, measure resistance between Yellow/Red and Red wires. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to step 6).
  5. Disconnect Wiper Control Module (WCM) harness connector located behind instrument panel, between steering column and radio. Measure resistance of Black/Pink, Yellow/Red, Dark Blue/Orange and Red wires between wiper motor and WCM connectors. If resistance of all wires is 5 ohms or less, replace WCM. If resistance in any wire(s) is greater than 5 ohms, repair open circuit(s) as necessary. After repair, retest system.
  6. Inspect wiper linkage for damage. Repair as necessary. See ADJUSTMENTS  . If linkage is okay, replace wiper motor.
