Illuminated Entry Does Not Work From Remote Transmitter

  1. Lock vehicle. Allow 2 minutes for all systems to reset. Lift driver's door handle. If interior lights come on, go to next step. If interior lights do not come on, repair interior lighting system. See wiring diagram in ILLUMINATION/INTERIOR LIGHTS article.
  2. Unplug RKEM connectors C1 and C3. See Figure . Measure resistance between ground and RKEM connector C1, terminal No. 5 (Black/Yellow wire). Measure resistance between ground and RKEM connector C3, terminals No. 1 and 15 (both Black wires). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in appropriate Black wire and retest system. See WIRING DIAGRAM  .
  3. Unplug RKEM connector C2. See Figure . Measure voltage between ground and RKEM connector C2, terminal No. 13 (Black/White wire). Measure voltage between ground and RKEM connector C2, terminals No. 14 and 25 (both Black/White wires). Measure voltage between ground and RKEM connector C1, terminal No. 1 (Light Green/Yellow wire). If voltage is more than 9 volts in all tests, go to next step. If voltage is less than 9 volts, check SEAT/LOCK (20-amp) circuit breaker and replace as necessary. If circuit breaker is okay, repair open or short in appropriate wire. See WIRING DIAGRAM  . Also check INT LPS (10-amp) fuse, replace as necessary. Retest system.
  4. Measure resistance between RKEM connector C1, terminal No. 1 (Light Green/Yellow wire) and connector C2, terminals No. 10 and 23 (both Light Green/Yellow wires). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in appropriate Light Green/Yellow wire and retest system. See WIRING DIAGRAM  .
  5. Reconnect RKEM connector C2. Measure voltage between ground and RKEM connector C2, terminals No. 10 and 23 (both Light Green/Yellow wires). If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair short in appropriate Light Green/Yellow wire and retest system. See WIRING DIAGRAM  .
  6. Measure voltage between ground and RKEM connector C2, terminals No. 11 and 12 (both Light Green/Orange wires). If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, temporarily substitute known good RKEM, then retest system.
  7. Measure voltage between ground and RKEM connector C1, terminal No. 6 (White/Purple wire) while turning ignition switch from off to on. If voltage changes from zero volts to more than 10 volts when ignition switch is turned from off to on, go to next step. If voltage does not change, repair open or short in White/Purple wire and retest system. See WIRING DIAGRAM  .
  8. Reconnect RKEM connectors C1 and C2. Measure voltage between ground and RKEM connector C3, terminal No. 17 (Gray wire) while rotating instrument panel light dimmer control to ON position (switch closed). If voltage is 10 volts or more, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open in Gray wire and retest system. See WIRING DIAGRAM  .
  9. Ensure RKEM connectors C1 and C2 are securely connected to RKEM. Turn instrument panel light dimmer control to OFF position (switch open). Measure resistance between RKEM connector C1, terminals No. 1 (Light Green/Yellow wire) and No. 10 (Gray/Yellow wire). If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair short in headlight switch as necessary.
  10. Turn instrument panel light dimmer control to ON position (switch closed). Measure voltage between ground and RKEM connector C3, terminals No. 7 and 19 (both Black/Light Blue wires). If voltage is 10 volts or more, turn dimmer control off and go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, temporarily substitute known good RKEM, then retest system.
  11. Check resistance between ground and RKEM connector C1, terminal No. 7 (White/Light Blue wire) while each door handle lifted and released. Resistance should be less than 5 ohms with handle is lifted and 10 k/ohms or more with handle released. If resistance is as specified, go to step 14). If resistance is more than 5 ohms with handle lifted, go to step 13). If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms with handle released, go to next step.
  12. Ensure instrument panel light dimmer control is off and doors are closed. Disconnect RKEM connector C3. Measure resistance between ground and RKEM connector C3, terminal No. 7 (Black/Light Blue wire) with each door open and closed. Resistance should be 5 ohms or less with door open and 10 k/ohms or more with door closed. If resistance is as specified, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, replace worn or defective courtesy light switch as necessary and retest system.
  13. Momentarily connect jumper wire between RKEM connector C2, terminals No. 10 and 23 (both Light Green/Yellow wires) and RKEM connector C3, terminals No. 7 and 19 (both Black/Light Blue wires). If interior lights illuminate, go to next step. If interior lights do not illuminate, repair open or short in Light Green/Yellow or Black/Light Blue wires and retest system. See WIRING DIAGRAM  . See wiring diagram in ILLUMINATION/INTERIOR LIGHTS article.
  14. Inspect RKEM connectors C1, C2 and C3 for loose or corroded terminals. If any terminals are loose or corroded, repair as necessary. If connector terminals are okay, temporarily substitute known good RKEM, then retest system.
