Using New Generation Star (NGS) Tester

  1. Turn ignition off. Locate Data Link Connector (DLC) behind left side of instrument panel. Following manufacturer's instructions, connect NGS Tester (007-00500) to DLC.
  2. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Perform vehicle selection. If NGS tester does not communicate with vehicle, check the following:
    • Check if proper program card is installed.
    • Check for proper connections to vehicle.
    • Check ignition switch position.

If tester still does not properly communicate, go to NO COMMUNICATION WITH ABS CONTROL MODULE  under SYMPTOM TESTS. On 1999 models, if CKT 914, CKT 915, OR CKT 70 = ALL ECUS NO RESP/NOT EQUIP is displayed, diagnose module communications network. See appropriate MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. If NO RESP/NOT EQUIP for ABS control module is displayed, go to NO COMMUNICATION WITH ABS CONTROL MODULE  under SYMPTOM TESTS. If tester communicates properly, go to next step.

  3. Using NGS tester, retrieve Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) from ABS control module and execute self-test diagnostics. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) IDENTIFICATION  table. If self-test passes and no DTCs are set, go to TROUBLE SHOOTING  for symptom diagnosis.

(1) Clear DTCs. Repeat self-test. If DTC B1342 reoccurs, replace HCU. Repeat self-test.

(2) Repair all DTCs retrieved.

(3) Replace ABS relay if DTC repeats.
