Test C: Flash Code 3 - DEACTIVATOR Switch Circuit Failure

  1. Check Stoplight Operation  - Press brake pedal and check stoplight operation. If stoplights operate properly, go to next step. If stoplights do not operate properly, see appropriate EXTERIOR LIGHTS wiring diagram in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in the WIRING DIAGRAMS section to continue diagnosis.
  2. Check Deactivator Switch Circuitry  - Turn ignition off. Disconnect speed control servo/actuator connector C171 (located near right front fenderwell). Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using a voltmeter, check voltage between speed control servo/actuator connector C171 terminal No. 4 and 10. See Figure . If voltage is 10 volts or less, go to next step. If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace speed control servo/actuator and perform SELF-DIAGNOSTIC TEST.
  3. Check Deactivator Switch  - Turn ignition off. Disconnect deactivator switch connector C102 (located in left rear corner of engine compartment). Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Connect a jumper wire between deactivator switch connector C102 terminals. Using a voltmeter, check voltage between speed control servo/actuator connector C171 terminals No. 4 and 10. If voltage is 10 volts or less, go to next step. If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace deactivator switch and perform SELF-DIAGNOSTIC TEST.
  4. Check Black/Yellow Wire For Open  - Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between speed control servo/actuator connector C171 terminal No. 9 and deactivator switch connector C103 Black/Yellow wire terminal. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair Light Green/Red wire between deactivator switch and instrument panel fuse block. Perform SELF-DIAGNOSTIC TEST. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair Black/Yellow wire between speed control servo/actuator and deactivator switch. Perform SELF-DIAGNOSTIC TEST.
