Top Does Not Operate
- Turn ignition off. Remove convertible top switch (located in center console, beside parking brake lever). See CONVERTIBLE TOP SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect switch connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between switch connector terminal No. 3 (Purple/Orange wire) and ground. If battery voltage is present, go to step 3). If battery voltage is not present, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Locate interior fuse panel. Measure voltage between fuse No. 1 (lower right corner) and ground. If battery voltage is present, repair open circuit in Purple/Orange wire circuit. If battery voltage is not present, repair short circuit in Purple/Orange wire circuit.
- Turn ignition off. Reconnect convertible top switch connector. Turn ignition on. Check for voltage at switch connector as follows:
- With switch in RAISE position, battery should be present at connector terminal No. 1 (Purple wire).
- With switch in LOWER position, battery should be present at connector terminal No. 5 (Gray/Light Blue wire).
If battery voltage is as specified, go to next step. If battery voltage is not as specified, replace convertible top switch.
- Turn ignition off. Set convertible top switch to RAISE position. Disconnect raise relay (located behind top center of rear seat on left side of top motor). Turn ignition on. Connect voltmeter between connector terminal No. 85 (Purple wire) and ground. See Fig 1 . If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, repair open in Purple wire circuit.
- Turn ignition off. Set convertible top switch to LOWER position. Disconnect lower relay (located behind top center of rear seat on left side of top motor). Turn ignition on. Connect voltmeter between connector terminal No. 85 (Gray/Light Blue wire) and ground. See Fig 1 . If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, repair open in Gray/Light Blue wire circuit.
- Turn ignition off. Individually, check voltage of raise and lower relay connectors between terminal No. 87 (Red/Light Blue wire) and ground. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, go to step 8).
- Turn ignition off. Measure resistance between raise and lower relay connector terminal No. 87a (Black wire) and ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to step 10). If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open circuit in Black wire.
- Turn ignition off. Locate fuse box in engine compartment. Disconnect convertible top circuit breaker (30-amp). Measure resistance between ground and output side of circuit breaker. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair short circuit in Red/Light Blue wire. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step.
- Measure resistance between output side of circuit breaker and raise and lower relay connector terminals No. 87 (Red/Light Blue wire). If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is not 10 k/ohms or less, repair open circuit in Red/Light Blue wire.
- Turn ignition off. Reconnect raise relay. Set convertible top switch to RAISE position. Turn ignition on. Using a voltmeter, backprobe between connector terminal No. 30 (Red wire) and ground. See Fig 1 . If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, replace raise relay.
- Turn ignition off. Reconnect lower relay. Set convertible top switch to LOWER position. Turn ignition on. Using a voltmeter, backprobe between connector terminal No. 30 (Yellow wire) and ground. See Fig 1 . If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, replace lower relay.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect drive motor wiring harness connector. Set convertible top switch to RAISE position. Turn ignition on. Using a voltmeter, measure voltage between connector terminal Red wire and ground. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, repair open in Red wire circuit.
- Leave ignition on. Set convertible top switch to LOWER position. Using a voltmeter, measure voltage between connector terminal Yellow wire and ground. If battery voltage is present, replace drive motor and plate kit. If battery voltage is not present, repair open in Yellow wire circuit.
