Anti-Lock Brake System: Description
NOTE:
For more information on brake system, see appropriate DISC & DRUM article.
The Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) allows the driver to stop in the shortest distance while maintaining steering control. System consists of a master cylinder/booster assembly, Anti-Lock Brake Control Module (ABCM), Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU), electric pump/motor, brake pressure control valve, 4 wheel sensors, and ANTI-LOCK and BRAKE warning lights.
Traction Assist (TA) works with the ABS to control rear wheel spin when vehicle is accelerated on slippery or loose surfaces.
The anti-lock control - anti wheelspin control system consists of the following components:
- Anti-lock brake control module (2C219)
- Anti-lock brake sensor (front) (2C204)
- Anti-lock brake sensor (rear) (2C190)
- Anti-lock brake sensor indicators (front) (2C182)
- Anti-lock brake sensor indicators (rear) (2C189)
- Brake pedal position (BPP) switch (13480)
- Instrument cluster (10849)
- Hydraulic control unit (HCU) (2C266)
- Powertrain control module (PCM) (12A650)
- Traction control switch
The anti-lock brake control module and the hydraulic control unit are installed as separate units in this system.
