Self-Diagnostic System

  1. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC) located below instrument panel. Using NGS tester, perform DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST. If NGS tester displays CKT 914, CKT 915 or CKT 70=ALL ECUS NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, see MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK - RANGER article to diagnosis network concern. If NGS tester displays NO RESP/NOT EQUIP for Generic Electronic Module (GEM)/Central Timer Module (CTM), go to TEST E: NO COMMUNICATION WITH GEM/CTM  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  2. If NGS tester displays SYSTEM PASSED for GEM/CTM, retrieve and record continuous DTCs using NGS tester. Erase continuous DTCs. Perform GEM/CTM On-Demand SELF-TEST using NGS tester. If any DTCs are present, see GENERIC ELECTRONIC MODULE/CENTRAL TIMER MODULE (GEM/CTM) DTC DEFINITIONS  table. If no DTCs are retrieved, perform appropriate system test. See SYMPTOM INDEX  table under SYSTEM TESTS.

(2) Using NGS tester, clear DTCs. Retrieve DTCs. If DTC B1342 is retrieved, replace GEM/CTM and retest system operation.
(3) This DTC may also be present from GEM/CTM wiggle test.
(4) Vehicle speed calibration data is not programmed into GEM/CTM. Use NGS tester configuration card help screen to program tire size and axle ratio. Retest system operation. If DTC B2141 is still present, replace GEM/CTM and retest system operation.
