Removal & Installation: CLOCKSPRING: Removal

- Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Remove driver-side air bag module. See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE .
- Place front wheels are in straight-ahead position. Remove steering wheel. See STEERING WHEEL . Unscrew tilt wheel handle and shank, if equipped. Remove 3 screws and lower steering column shroud. Turn ignition switch to RUN position.
- Using small drift, push upward on ignition switch lock cylinder release tab while pulling outward on ignition switch lock cylinder and remove lock cylinder. See Fig 1 . Position upper steering column shroud up enough to access clockspring retaining clips. Remove passive anti-theft system transmitter retaining screw and position transmitter out of way. Remove key-in-ignition warning indicator switch from lock cylinder housing.
- Remove 2 clockspring wire connectors from wire connector bracket and disconnect connectors. Remove wire harness from 2 holders. Release lower clockspring retaining clip. Release remaining 2 clockspring retaining clips and remove clockspring. See Fig 2 .
