Side Air Bag Module: Removal

- Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM.
- Remove appropriate front seat. See FRONT SEAT . Pry out and remove seat cushion adjuster handle center plug. Release seat cushion adjuster handle retaining tabs and remove handle. Remove seat backrest lever cover and screw located below lever. Pull out to release retaining clips and remove outboard seat cushion side shield. Disconnect power seat switch connector, if equipped.
- Pull out to release retaining clips and remove inboard seat cushion side shield. Release seat belt pretensioner and buckle wiring harness pin-type retainers from seat. Remove seat backrest pivot nut. Remove seat backrest bolts. Slide seat backrest pivot stud out of seat cushion frame. Remove seat backrest. Turn manual lumbar handle clockwise until it stops, releasing all tension on manual lumbar support cable. Pull and remove manual lumbar support adjustment handle. Separate seat backrest trim cover "J" clips.
- Placing hand between seat backrest trim cover and pad, carefully separate Velcro strips. Roll seat back trim cover in an inside out fashion and remove seat back trim cover. Separate side air bag module wire harness pin-type retainers from seat back frame. Remove side air bag module mounting nuts and air bag module. See Figure .
