WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Lincoln Blackwood. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
WARNING:
Vehicles are equipped with air bag supplemental restraint system. Before attempting ANY repairs involving steering column, instrument panel or related components, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS and DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM in AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS
article in RESTRAINTS.
CAUTION:
When battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES
article in GENERAL INFORMATION before disconnecting battery.
Before performing any system tests on wiper/washer system, check wiper/washer related fuses, damaged/stripped wiper motor shaft, damaged/stripped wiper pivot arm shaft, damaged washer pump, loose or corroded connections, damaged wiring harness, binding windshield wiper pivot arm and inoperative multifunction switch.
Wiper/washers utilize a self-diagnostic system which may store a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) if a problem exists in the system. DTCs may be retrieved using New Generation Star (NGS) tester. Correct any obvious problems before continuing testing. If problem still exists, go to SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM table under SYSTEM TESTS.
