Test I: AUTOLOCK Inoperative

NOTE: After making any repairs, retest system for proper operation.
  1. Perform enable/disable sequence for autolock/relock feature. See AUTOLOCK ENABLE/DISABLE  under PROGRAMMING. If only one horn chirp is heard, autolock is disabled. If system was disabled, repeat step to enable system and go to next step. If horn chirps once and is followed by a longer chirp, autolock is enabled.
  2. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below driver's side of instrument panel, right of steering column. Using NGS tester, retrieve continuous DTCs. Clear DTCs. Perform Central Security Module (CSM) self-test. If DTC B1485 is retrieved, go to next step. If DTC B1629 is retrieved, go to step  8. If no DTCs are retrieved, go to step  11.
  3. Using NGS tester, select CSM PID BOO. Monitor BRAKE ON/OFF switch. If CSM PID BOO displays OFF, go to next step. If CSM PID BOO displays ON, go to step  5.
  4. Ensure NGS tester displays ON and OFF state as brake pedal is pressed and released. If NGS tester indicates CSM PID BOO always ON, go to next step. If NGS tester indicates CSM PID BOO always OFF, go to step  6. If NGS tester indicates CSM PID BOO indicates OFF when brake pedal is released and ON when pressed, go to step  8.
  5. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect CSM harness connector C274a. CSM module is located behind instrument panel, left of steering column. Measure voltage between ground and CSM harness connector C274a terminal No. 26 (Red/Light Green wire). See Figure. If any voltage exists, repair short to power in Red/Light Green wire between CSM and brake pedal position switch. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Clear DTCs. If no voltage exists, go to step  8.
  6. Depress brake pedal to check operation of brakelights. If brakelights operate, go to next step. If brakelights do not operate, repair brakelights. See EXTERIOR LIGHTS and/or POWER DISTRIBUTION in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL.
  7. Reconnect negative battery cable. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Press and hold brake pedal down. Measure voltage between ground and CSM harness connector C274a terminal No. 26 (Red/Light Green wire). See Figure. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open in Red/Light Green wire between brake pedal position switch and CSM module or White/Yellow wire between brake pedal position switch and central junction box. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If battery voltage exists, go to step  18.
  8. Using NGS tester, select CSM PID TRANSGR. Monitor transmission range switch. If display does not show REV, go to next step. If display shows REV, go to step  10.
  9. Monitor CSM PID TRANSGR while moving gear selector lever from Park to Reverse, then back to Park. If display does not show REV while shift lever is in Reverse position, go to next step. If display shows REV while shift lever is in Reverse position, clear all DTCs and perform CSM self-test. If DTC B1629 is retrieved, go to step  18.
  10. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect CSM harness connector C274a. CSM is located behind instrument panel, left of steering column. Reconnect negative battery cable. Measure voltage between ground and CSM harness connector C274a terminal No. 12 (Black/Pink wire). See Figure. If any voltage exists, repair short to power in Black/Pink wire between CSM and central junction box. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If no voltage exists, go to step  18.
  11. Using NGS tester, monitor CSM PID DOOR. Close all doors. PID DOOR display should indicate CLOSED. Open driver's side door. PID DOOR display should indicate AJAR. If PID DOOR display always indicates AJAR, go to next step. If display always indicates CLOSED, go to step  14. If display indicates as specified, go to step  15.
  12. Perform Generic Electronic Module (GEM) self-test. If no DTCs are retrieved, go to next step. If DTC B1322, B1330, B1334, B1338, or B1574 is retrieved, diagnose door ajar system. See ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS - BLACKWOOD article.
  13. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect CSM harness connector C274a. Disconnect Generic Electronic Module (GEM) 16-pin harness connector C201b. Measure resistance between ground and CSM harness connector C274a terminal No. 11 (Light Blue/White wire). See Figure. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to step  18. If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, repair short to ground in Light Blue/White wire between CSM and GEM. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  14. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect CSM harness connector C274a. CSM is located behind instrument panel, left of steering column. Measure resistance between ground and CSM harness connector C274a terminal No. 11 (Light Blue/White wire) while door is open. See Figure. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, go to step  18. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, repair open in Light Blue/White wire between GEM and CSM. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  15. Using NGS tester, monitor CSM PID IGN while turning ignition switch from LOCK to RUN position, then back to LOCK. If display always indicates ON, go to next step. If NGS tester display changes from OFF to ON to OFF, all system inputs are okay. If display always indicates OFF, go to step  17.
  16. Reconnect negative battery cable. Measure voltage between ground and CSM harness connector C274a terminal No. 25 (Red/Yellow wire). See Figure. If any voltage exists, repair short to voltage in Red/Yellow wire between central junction box and CSM. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If voltage does not exist, go to step  18.
  17. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and CSM harness connector C274a terminal No. 25 (Red/Yellow wire). If battery voltage exists, go to step  18. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open in Red/Yellow wire between central junction box and CSM. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  18. Ensure ignition switch is in LOCK position. Disconnect all CSM module harness connectors. CSM module is located behind instrument panel, left of steering column. Check for backed out or corroded terminals. Repair terminals as necessary. Connect all CSM module harness connectors. Check operation of power door lock system. If problem still exists, replace CSM. See CENTRAL SECURITY MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If problem does not exist, clear all DTCs and perform CSM module self-test.
