Removal And Installation

NOTE: Installation of a new suction accumulator is not required when repairing the air conditioning system, except when there is physical evidence of contamination from a failed A/C compressor or damage to the suction accumulator.
  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING AND LIFTING article.
  2. Recover the refrigerant. For additional information, refer to CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION AND DIAGNOSTICS article.
  3. Position the speed control actuator assembly aside.
    1. Disconnect the electrical connector.
    2. Detach the wire harness.
    3. Remove the 3 nuts and position the speed control actuator aside.
      • To install, tighten to 7 Nm (62 lb-in).

  5. Remove the 2 compressor manifold and tube assembly bracket nuts.
    • To install, tighten to 8 Nm (71 lb-in).
  6. Disconnect the compressor manifold and tube spring lock coupling at the suction accumulator.
    • Discard the O-ring seals.
  7. Remove the front bumper cover. For additional information, refer to BUMPERS article.
  8. Remove the condenser core inlet fitting nut and disconnect the condenser core inlet fitting.
    • Discard the O-ring seal.
      • To install, tighten to 8 Nm (71 lb-in).
  9. Remove the RH splash shield. For additional information, refer to FRONT END BODY PANELS article.
  10. If equipped, disconnect the engine block heater.
  11. Disconnect the A/C compressor electrical connector.
  12. Remove the compressor manifold bolt.
    • To install, tighten to 20 Nm (15 lb-ft).
  13. Remove the compressor manifold and tube assembly.
    • Discard the O-ring seals.
  14. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
  15. Evacuate, leak test and charge the refrigerant system. For additional information, refer to CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION AND DIAGNOSTICS article.
