Removal & Installation: CLOCKSPRING: Removal

- Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM.
- Ensure front wheels are in straight-ahead position. Remove driver-side air bag module and steering wheel. See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE . Remove screws and steering column opening cover. See Figure . Remove tilt column handle.
- Remove 3 screws and lower steering column shroud. Turn ignition switch to ON position. While pushing in on tab, pull out and remove ignition lock cylinder. See Figure . Remove lower instrument cluster finish panel and upper steering column shroud. Remove screw and Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) receiver. If reusing clockspring, apply 2 strips of tape across clockspring assembly to prevent accidental rotation.
- Remove key-in-ignition warning switch. Disconnect clockspring electrical connectors and disengage wire harness from retainers. Disengage retaining clips and remove clockspring.
