Driver-Side Air Bag Module: Removal

  1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS  . Disable air g bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM.
  2. Remove steering wheel access cover, gear drive and steering wheel. See Figure . Remove screws and steering wheel back cover. From back of steering wheel, push in on left side of spring clip. See Figure . Release spring clip from tabs on steering wheel and separate left side of air bag module from steering wheel. Repeat procedure for right side of spring clip.
  3. Separate, but DO NOT remove air bag module from steering wheel. See Figure . Disconnect horn switch electrical connector, guide air bag harness out of steering wheel, and remove air bag module.
