Sensor Failure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Ford RV Cutaway, 2002 Ford Econoline, 2002 Ford E550 Super Duty, 2002 Ford E450 Super Duty, and 2002 Ford Cutaway. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Connect EEC-IV 60-Pin Breakout Box to the anti-lock brake control module with ABS Adapter Cable.
  2. Disconnect the suspect anti-lock brake sensor.
  3. Check the harness for short to ground.
NOTE: Use 88 Digital Multimeter with the minimum resistance hold feature enabled for this test.

    1. Monitor the resistance between EEC-IV 60-Pin Breakout Box pins and ground as follows:
    2. Drive over rough roads at various speeds.
    3. If there is continuity between either circuit and ground, repair the circuit for a short to ground.
  4. Check the harness for an open circuit.
NOTE: Connect the jumper securely to the suspect anti-lock brake sensor connector.
    1. Connect a jumper between the two pins on the suspect anti-lock brake sensor connector.
    2. NOTE: Use 88 Digital Multimeter with the maximum resistance hold feature enabled for this test.

    3. Monitor the resistance between EEC-IV 60-Pin Breakout Box pins as follows:
    4. Drive over rough roads at various speeds.
    5. If there is an open circuit detected between the pins, repair the circuit(s) for an open circuit.
  5. Check the suspect anti-lock brake sensor pigtail.
NOTE: Use 88 Digital Multimeter with the maximum resistance hold feature enabled for this test.

    1. Monitor the resistance between suspect anti-lock brake sensor terminals while wiggling the connector as follows:
    2. If the resistance is above specification, replace the anti-lock brake sensor.
    3. NOTE: Use 88 Digital Multimeter with the minimum resistance hold feature enabled for this test.
    4. Monitor the resistance between an anti-lock brake sensor pin (component side) and ground on the highest resistance scale of the meter while wiggling the connector.
    5. If the meter shows anything but an open circuit, install a new anti-lock brake sensor.
