Engine Front Cover: Material

- Remove the RH valve cover. For additional information, refer to VALVE COVER RH in this section.
- Remove the LH valve cover. For additional information, refer to VALVE COVER LH in this section.
- Remove the belt idler pulleys and the belt tensioner. For additional information, refer to ACCESSORY DRIVE BELT, TENSIONER AND PULLEY in this section.
- Remove the coolant pump. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING .
- Disconnect the upper radiator hose.
- Remove the fuel tube bracket bolt.
- Disconnect the lower radiator hose.
- Remove the oil pan. For additional information, refer to OIL PAN, OIL PUMP, OIL PUMP SCREEN AND PICKUP TUBE in this section.
- Remove the power steering pump. For additional information, refer to STEERING SYSTEM .
- Remove the crankshaft front oil seal. For additional information, refer to CRANKSHAFT PULLEY AND CRANKSHAFT SEAL in this section.
- Remove the components in the order indicated in the following illustration and table.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
Items 5 and 6: Engine Front Cover and Engine Front Cover Gaskets Removal Note
- Remove the fasteners and the engine front cover.
- Discard the gasket.
Items 4-6: Engine Front Cover, Engine Front Cover Fasteners and Engine Front Cover Gaskets Installation Note
- Clean the sealing surfaces on the engine and the engine front cover.
- Apply a 6 mm (0.24 in) diameter dot of silicone gasket and sealant to the areas indicated.
- Install a new gasket.
- Position the front cover and tighten the bolts in the sequence shown.
NOTE:
Install the engine front cover within four minutes of sealant application.
NOTE:
Number 14 is a stud and washer assembly.
