Extension Housing: Removal

- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, raise and support the vehicle. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
- Remove the drain plug and drain the transmission fluid.
- Remove and support the rear driveshaft. For additional information, refer to DRIVESHAFT .
- Remove the transfer case, if equipped. For additional information, refer to TRANSFER CASE - AUTOMATIC SHIFT .
- Using the special tool, support the transmission.
- Secure the transmission with a strap.
- Remove the six crossmember bolts.
- Remove the nuts, then remove the crossmember.
- Remove the transmission mount.
- Remove the bolts.
- Reposition the exhaust mounting bracket.
- Remove the extension housing.
- 4x2 shown, 4x4 similar.
NOTE:
To maintain initial driveshaft balance, index-mark the driveshaft to the rear axle pinion flange so it can be installed in its original position.
