Coil Spring & Strut Assembly: Removal

  1. Hold strut shaft with 8-mm Allen wrench, and loosen top retaining nut 5 turns. Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheel assembly. Remove brake hose and anti-lock brake sensor wiring (if equipped) from strut bracket.
  2. Remove stabilizer bar link from lower end of strut. Remove outer tie-rod end nut. Using Ball Joint Separator (TOOL-3290-D), remove tie-rod end. Remove and suspend front brake caliper and anchor plate assembly. Remove brake rotor.
  3. Remove strut assembly-to-steering knuckle pinch bolt. Remove control arm-to-steering knuckle pinch bolt. Separate ball joint from steering knuckle. DO NOT damage ball joint seal. Remove steering knuckle.
  4. Ensure not to bend inner axle shaft boot more than 18 degrees, and outer axle shaft boot more than 45 degrees. Hold strut shaft with 8-mm Allen wrench, and remove top strut retaining nut. Remove strut assembly from vehicle.
