Shift Control Assembly: Reassembly

  1. Using appropriate driver, install upper gearshift lever bearing into shaft opening. Install bearings to a depth of .20" (5 mm). See Fig 1. Install oil seals. Install lower gearshift bearing along with gearshift lever shaft. Adjust gearshift lever shaft end play by gently tapping on end of shaft with pin punch from inside of housing.
  2. Install selector lever shaft and guide bracket with ball joint. Drive ball sleeve in selector gate with appropriate driver. Slide snap-ring and washer onto selector shaft. Assemble selector finger and finger bracket so holes are aligned. Install finger bracket and selector shaft. Tighten attaching bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  3. Install selector gate and shaft into housing. Install spring(s). Apply sealer to selector cover and install cover. Tighten cover screws. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Install back-up light actuating pin and switch.
